three guys named Zer Skelton and Brier
0:02
started putting together a brand new car
0:04
while they were working at Willis under
0:05
the direction of Walter Chrysler that
0:07
car grew into the first Chrysler they
0:10
didn't make it but eventually Walter
0:13
Chrysler LED Maxwell Motors and they
0:15
made the first Chryslers and the first
0:17
ones were sold in January 1924 to a
0:20
public that was very eager to get more
0:22
of them because they were special they
0:24
had four-wheel hydraulic brakes one of
0:26
the very few cars to have hydraulic
0:28
brakes the uh main ones sold to the
0:30
public before that was the cord and the
0:33
chrys ones were tested in heat and cold
0:35
and they were consistently good so they
0:38
also had a uh very impressive engine
0:42
designed for durability and reliability
0:44
and smoothness but able to propel the
0:46
new Chrysler of 70 M hour which if you
0:48
know 1924 cars is a lot so goes on sale
0:53
January 1924 here we are a century later
0:56
it is Chrysler
0:58
Centennial 2024
1:00
so to celebrate it we don't have any
1:02
official celebrations because Chrysler
1:04
isn't admitting it's 100 years old I
1:07
guess it's worried about its age it's
1:08
going to you know stay 39 forever but we
1:11
do have this lovely book A Century of
1:13
Chrysler and this takes you through the
1:15
story of Chrysler from before it was
1:18
Chrysler it takes you from the start of
1:21
Maxwell takes you before the start of
1:23
Maxwell really and it takes you up to
1:27
the creation of the Chrysler and then
1:29
all the way through to the current day
1:30
it's kind of us Centric I do have other
1:33
countries in there but it's mostly
1:36
us because this is where Chrysler was
1:38
born and you can see lots and lots of
1:42
illustrations let's see as we go through
1:45
the years and I cover the 300 letter
1:50
cars but I also cover the everyday cars
1:52
which Chrysler sold for years which kept
1:54
them going all the way up to
1:57
today now this book which I might remind
2:00
you is the only way to celebrate
2:02
Chrysler Centennial right now unless you
2:04
want to have a party in your backyard
2:05
which I would
2:07
endorse uh it is available in four
2:10
versions two ebooks two print books so
2:14
paperbacks $33 at Amazon 34 at Barnes &
2:18
Noble why because Barnes & Noble charges
2:20
more for printing so 33 at Amazon is
2:22
your Best Buy $39 for the hard cover at
2:25
Amazon if you really like hard covers
2:28
the content is exactly the same
2:30
now in the ebooks the pictures are
2:32
grouped together to make it easier to
2:35
read and there's fewer pictures because
2:37
Amazon has a limit on the sze of an
2:38
ebook that you can store with them $8.99
2:41
for an apple ebook suitable for iPad or
2:44
iPhone probably easy on the iPad and
2:47
then there's the uh Kindle version is
2:51
$9.99 you know when I put this book
2:54
together I tried to draw on everything
2:55
that I had learned about Chrysler I
2:57
started what became allar back in in 93
3:00
or 94 and I was working on it through
3:04
2017 and then I started motels and work
3:07
with Patrick at uh stal
3:09
Power and I've done all these videos so
3:12
I've learned a lot but I've also met a
3:14
lot of people I've met some of the
3:16
people who led product development at
3:18
Chrysler who uh were responsible for
3:20
some major parts and we and I talked and
3:22
I tried to integrate everything that I
3:24
learned into this book to give you
3:26
multiple perspectives and I use my
3:28
organizational uh research and
3:31
Consulting background as well to try to
3:34
get into what was going on so it's a
3:36
book about Chrysler the mark not
3:37
Chrysler the corporation a lot I learned
3:40
a lot about what Chrysler was and what
3:43
it wasn't and I learned about how what
3:45
it was changed over time but there was
3:48
always some core that was in common and
3:51
I learned about what really damaged the
3:53
Chrysler image over time and changed it
3:56
but I also learned that it stayed
3:58
surprisingly strong for surprisingly
4:00
long amount of time and really survived
4:02
a lot of things that you might think
4:05
would have really damaged it quite a bit
4:08
so that's the book I urge you to go out
4:11
and buy it uh you can see all the links
4:14
to buy it at dave. zs. us/ century. PHP
4:20
or you can just go on to Amazon and do a
4:22
search for Century Chrysler Zs if you
4:25
want to all right this is Dave from
4:27
Motel signing off and uh oh that's one
4:30
last thing if you want an autograph copy
4:33
there is a thread on allpar.com and I
4:36
will get one to you as soon as I
4:38
can so just let me know and I'll see you
4:41
soon
