V8 update: TWO new Mopar Hemis on the way?
Feb 24, 2026
The two engines, at least one new block, what the 7.0 is probably about, and a few more quick tidbits!
One of these is probably going into the Dodge midsize pickup (Dakota?) and Ram REV / Grand Wagoneer REEV, and another is probably aimed at the 2027 Ram 2500-3500.

Hi, this is Dave and I'm here to talk to
0:02
you one last time about these new Hemi
0:05
V8s that we've heard about. And one of
0:07
them will be smaller, which means a
0:10
whole new block because they'd be
0:12
changing the bore spacing to make it
0:14
really compact. And the other one would
0:16
be bigger. And the bigger one would, you
0:20
know, what's rumored is a 7 L based on
0:22
the 6.4 truck engine. And this would
0:25
mainly be used for the Ram 2500 and Ram
0:28
3500
0:30
as a bigger alternative to the 6.4
0:34
and the uh cheaper alternative to the
0:36
Cumins diesel which is a real powerhouse
0:38
but kind of expensive and then you have
0:40
to pay extra to get the uh diesel fuel
0:43
in most places. So what I'm expecting is
0:46
that the 7 L really will be just for the
0:48
big trucks and that like the current 6.4
0:51
Ford truck engine. It will not be like
0:53
an SRT power rating. It won't be like
0:56
485 or 500 horsepower. It'll be a
0:59
reasonable horsepower, reasonable torque
1:02
meant to last a long, long time under
1:04
heavy use. Basically, it's going to be a
1:07
truck engine is what I'm figuring. And
1:09
it might very well replace the current
1:11
6.4 L truck engine, which, you know, has
1:14
been around for an awfully long time.
1:16
And some people would say it's
1:17
underperforming.
1:19
Uh, but you know, it's again a truck
1:21
engine meant for durability, not for
1:23
racing. Now, the compact engine, which
1:26
would be roughly 4 L. That one I'm
1:29
thinking maybe it's there to replace the
1:31
5.7. Maybe this is the new engine that
1:34
we've been hearing about for years and
1:36
years and years that was supposed to
1:37
finally uh replace the 5.7, a new
1:41
generation. And by making it literally
1:43
smaller and more compact, they could fit
1:45
it into more vehicles without having to
1:48
design them with really big under hood
1:51
areas because, you know, if they can
1:54
save an inch or two down there, then
1:56
they can save a lot of money and cut
1:58
some weight and they can maybe use it in
2:01
places where they couldn't use it
2:02
otherwise. So, it would basically be a
2:05
smaller V8 but more places for it. And
2:08
then again, it would be very useful to
2:10
have something with more power for the
2:13
range extended electric vehicles. Let's
2:16
say that they wanted to do that for the
2:18
Ram 2500 and 3500. They'd need more
2:21
power and they might need more power as
2:23
it is for the Grand Wagon Ear and the
2:27
Ram 1500. Okay, that's it. Just a quicky
2:31
update.
