hi there it's Dave from stal power and
0:02
Dave from motels all wrapped up in the
0:04
same person for you with the 2024 former
0:07
chryss Corporation sales report for the
0:10
year and there's good news and bad news
0:13
okay it's mostly bad news but first some
0:16
good news Chrysler's minivans again
0:19
number one what's kind of funny about
0:21
this by the way minivan came out in 1983
0:24
as an 84 model uh Chrysler did not get
0:27
one until
0:28
1990 and and uh now they're the only
0:33
division that has many Vans Dodges is
0:35
gone Plymouth itself is gone we're left
0:38
with Chrysler but Chrysler did all right
0:40
and we've got in first place Chrysler
0:43
and they were so comfortable that they
0:45
split off the Chrysler Voyager from the
0:49
Chrysler Pacifica and they still beat
0:51
Everybody by a good margin so anyway
0:54
Chrysler Pacifica 10
0:56
7,356 sales Voyager 12,3 three not
1:00
really all that big a deal you put them
1:02
together and they're about the same as
1:05
last year we've got number two Honda
1:07
Odyssey that's a 7% increase over last
1:10
year Toyota Sienna there's word that
1:12
they're going to bring back the Previa
1:15
uh great idea guys that's a little bit
1:18
like bringing back the Chrysler Aspen
1:20
but we're just going to leave it at that
1:21
so KIA Carnival that looked like a real
1:23
Contender that was scary when that thing
1:25
came out uh Carnival is of course what
1:28
Kia Cod it everywhere else in the US it
1:30
was the Sedona for some reason I think
1:33
that they were trying to pull a country
1:34
western on us and make us think that the
1:36
minivan was like an SUV and then maybe
1:39
we Americans would buy it because
1:40
Americans love SUVs so didn't doesn't
1:43
quite come to chrys territory needs a
1:45
double be4 can start talking about that
1:48
the bad news is that overall Chrysler
1:49
fell by
1:50
15% and pretty much everybody else went
1:53
up Hyundai Kia Genesis all set records
1:56
Genesis that's sad because Genesis
1:59
basically came in with their copy of the
2:01
Chrysler
2:02
300C and most of the reviewers said well
2:05
the 300 C is a better car but the 300C
2:09
was basically unchanged after 2015 and
2:12
the Genesis kept on changing year after
2:14
year they added a coupe they added a
2:17
crossover and now the Genesis line is
2:19
viable and it set a sales record and
2:22
it's doing all right and you see them
2:23
all over the place on the roads whereas
2:25
Chrysler decided that they would just
2:27
give up and say well nobody really
2:30
succeeds in the old Chrysler Niche you
2:32
know nobody except you know names
2:34
nobody's ever heard of like genesis and
2:36
Buick and Acura okay we find out from
2:39
the sales figures that they've sold over
2:40
100 Jeep Wagoner s models lest you
2:44
forget the S which uh they have the
2:46
launch edition for $70,000 we don't know
2:49
how much the actual one will cost you
2:51
can still only buy 2024 models even
2:54
though it's now 2025 this is of course
2:56
the reverse of how any sensible
2:58
automaker does it everybody else says
3:00
well let's sell the next year is early
3:03
and here's stantis saying hey I wonder
3:05
how long we can still sell last year's
3:07
model apparently uh going out to the
3:10
fast feedback buyers maybe some
3:12
influencers we don't know how many of
3:14
those uh 100 odd sales are actually real
3:17
sales and then you've got charger which
3:20
reportedly is getting out to dealers now
3:23
after being in fast feedback for a
3:24
couple of months and the really bad news
3:26
is that FCA us in a market that's really
3:29
gone up quite a bit with Toyota GM and
3:32
Ford only reporting a 4% gain for the
3:35
year uh and GM has done a stellar job
3:38
because GM has managed to have a gain
3:41
while cutting back on incentives anyway
3:44
let's go over Chrysler's numbers
3:46
together and we'll do some comparisons
3:47
to GM and Ford but I'm going to switch
3:49
to the uh computer mic for this because
3:52
you don't want to see me going up and
3:54
down reading from a sheet of paper right
3:56
you don't want that so here's the
3:58
overall sales and you can see that FCA
4:01
us was down pretty much the entire year
4:04
uh this goes quarter by quarter because
4:06
that's how they report their sales now
4:08
I'm just going to be looking at the all
4:09
2024 part of this table and we can see
4:12
that the compass went up which isn't
4:14
that surprising because the Cherokee
4:16
went from 24,000 to zero so the compass
4:19
getting an extra 10,000 or 20,000 sales
4:22
isn't really that big a deal the
4:24
Wrangler pretty much held steady which
4:25
is miraculous given competition from the
4:28
Ford Bronco the Gladiator dropped from
4:30
55,000 to 42,000 sales which given how
4:33
much they were charging for it for most
4:35
of the year is actually pretty good but
4:37
then at the end of the year they started
4:38
slapping on massive massive massive
4:42
rebates so it's really hard to tell I
4:45
think that this is a vehicle uh Bob
4:47
sheaves who was an AMC engineer for many
4:49
years when we are talking about the
4:51
Gladiator as something possible in the
4:53
future he said it would probably have
4:55
about 40,000 Global sales per year
4:58
trying to sell it at the 100,000 level
5:00
strikes me as probably not realistic
5:03
again though these numbers are actually
5:04
pretty good A 24% drop in Gladiator I
5:07
think is just the uh early adopters
5:11
being dropped out and everybody who's
5:12
left Cherokee as we all know they
5:14
stopped making it quite a while ago uh
5:17
then we have Grand Cherokee this is a
5:19
little scary dropped 12% keep in mind
5:21
Grand Cherokee was supposed to have the
5:23
hurricane 6 and that was supposed to
5:26
replace the V8 instead they just dropped
5:28
the V8 left at all V6 and no hurricane
5:30
six so if you really want that power you
5:33
can't get a Grand Cherokee so yeah maybe
5:35
no big surprise that Grand Cherokee
5:37
sales fell by 12% uh Renegade they
5:40
stopped importing to the United States
5:42
so again no big surprise it was a lousy
5:44
seller before it was really grossly
5:46
overpriced and the engine was not quite
5:49
what Americans like in an engine which
5:51
is to say lowend torque Wagoner that's a
5:53
success story and I know a competing
5:56
site said that wagon air is really slow
5:58
selling but it is a true success story
6:01
sales up 48% sold 43,000 of them that's
6:05
actually pretty good for somebody trying
6:07
to compete with the Chevy big full-size
6:09
pickups especially when you see the
6:11
grand Wagoner at 12,000 that is the old
6:14
luxury edition it's up 133% compare that
6:17
to a Lexus or a Cadillac don't compare
6:20
it to a Chevy kind of the blood letting
6:22
with ram ram down 16% some of that's due
6:25
believe it or not to supply but some of
6:28
it's due to left overs and trying to
6:31
keep the prices way too high for way too
6:33
long uh dealers you know some people say
6:36
it's because the new Ram doesn't have a
6:37
V8 people have driven it say that the
6:39
six is better anyway but uh also they
6:42
had a lot of heavy V8 sitting on
6:44
dealership Lots they were not willing to
6:46
come down in price so they dropped 16%
6:48
ProMaster van dropping 19% from 82,000
6:52
or so to 66,000 that's pretty bad losing
6:55
12,000 13,000 ProMaster City sales isn't
6:58
going to bankrupt them
7:00
that was again imported from Europe uh
7:02
speaking of cars that they no longer
7:04
make we have the Chrysler 300 that's
7:07
down 60% no big surprise they stopped
7:09
making them the end of 2023 again they
7:11
don't seem to have realized that Genesis
7:13
exists uh Town and Country two people
7:16
were lucky enough to find Old Town and
7:17
Country minivans or unlucky enough it
7:20
depends how much you like the Old Town
7:21
and Country compared to the Pacifica and
7:24
we've already talked about the wagon IRS
7:26
in the Pacifica and the Voyager so I'm
7:27
not really going to do it now we have
7:29
one last Dodge Dart selling that's a bit
7:31
of a surprise I guess it was used as a
7:34
laner or something or kept in the back
7:35
lot or God only knows what but somebody
7:38
bought a brand new Dodge Dart uh the
7:40
Viper no surprise that they sold a Viper
7:42
there were dealers who kept a bunch of
7:44
them at the end uh thinking that they
7:46
would saw them off slowly and name their
7:48
own price and I guess that they kind of
7:50
did then we have the Dodge Hornet not
7:52
exactly a success story basically an
7:54
Alpha Romeo with a uh different
7:57
powertrain and the iron of course is the
7:59
Alfa Romeo is a worked over Jeep Compass
8:03
either way the Hornet grossly outsold
8:05
the Alfa Romeo and it more than doubled
8:08
in sales because they started to slap
8:09
more money on the hoods and it was kind
8:11
of overpriced to begin with so that's
8:14
okay uh sold 35,000 Chargers those are
8:18
almost certainly nearly all the old
8:20
model there's probably a couple of
8:22
thousand of the new ones in there uh we
8:24
expect that number to be lousy because
8:26
they stopped making them at the end of
8:27
2023 uh they did man should sell 27,000
8:30
leftover Challengers the good news is
8:33
hey they sold 27,000 leftover
8:34
Challengers the really bad news is oh my
8:37
god there were 27,000 leftover
8:39
Challengers the two Caravans which and
8:41
they managed to sell two of those even
8:43
though they've been out of of production
8:46
for a while then we have the Durango
8:48
59,000 sales down 14% Durango still in
8:52
production so that's kind of interesting
8:54
uh it's still available with your choice
8:56
of 5.7 Hemi or 392 Hemi the that 14%
9:00
drop kind of tells me that the issue
9:03
with some of stellantis sales is not oh
9:05
we went all electric obviously they
9:07
didn't they they kind of went almost no
9:10
electric but uh It also says that the oh
9:13
no people only want V8 story is also not
9:16
quite true because Dango was available
9:18
with V8s the whole year and now we get
9:20
to the two sexy Italian brands that we
9:22
were told everybody in America would
9:24
lust after and would love because they
9:27
are so Italian and sexy
9:30
uh the 500e managed 970 sales in the
9:33
year that's a big increase it's also
9:37
pathetic and the 500x they had 558 sales
9:40
I didn't even know that they were still
9:41
making them or that they were still on
9:43
sale but it beat last year which is also
9:45
pretty pathetic at alfaromeo you have
9:48
another drop of 20 uh 19% that's
9:52
actually better than their usual drops
9:54
tanali which is again the compass
9:57
reworked less than 30 400 sales which
10:00
makes the hornet look good overall then
10:02
down by 15% overall let's look at the
10:05
brands briefly so here you see that the
10:07
most popular stellantis brand is somehow
10:10
Jeep with
10:13
587,589
10:19
each and that's down 9% Ram a former
10:23
Powerhouse at about 440,000 and they're
10:26
down by 19% and that is as always almost
10:30
entirely due to the pickup in chassis
10:32
cab lines we're supposed to be getting
10:34
hydrogen Ram 5500 soon but I don't think
10:37
that those will be a 200,000 a year
10:40
seller so Chrysler down 7% one of their
10:43
two cars uh taken out of production so
10:45
no big surprise there dodge got walloped
10:47
with a 29% drop that's even more than
10:50
Chrysler which is kind of surprising but
10:52
then you consider that the charger and
10:53
Challenger were not made for most of the
10:56
year uh they're only dripping out
10:57
Chargers there are no new Challen ERS
10:59
The Hornet won't exactly set the world
11:01
on fire I don't think it was ever meant
11:03
to be a big volume seller and of course
11:05
the Caravans long gone and the Durango
11:07
is pretty dated but they haven't dropped
11:09
the price or at least they haven't
11:11
dropped at much and they're still nickel
11:12
and Diamond you on things like paint
11:14
colors Fiat is not even worth mentioning
11:17
1,500 sales for the year it it's
11:19
negligible it's not even worth
11:21
mentioning and the big investment in
11:23
Alpha Romeo uh didn't quite hit 9,000
11:25
cars for the entire year that's lousy
11:28
even for an upale brand you got to
11:30
wonder what would have happened if they
11:32
had followed the original plan and done
11:34
new versions of the charger and 300 but
11:36
we'll never know oh and needless to say
11:38
there is more at Stell power.com where I
11:40
covered this in more depth this is Da of
11:42
signing off after summarizing the sales
