Out on the show field and in the Expo Center, we see an enormous number of rare and unusual cars from the turn of the century onwards—here’s just a short overview of the show!

Hi there. This is Dave from Motel and I
0:02
am here to talk about Chryslers at
0:04
Carile 2025.
0:06
This is the 100th anniversary of
0:08
Chrysler Edition and you can see a
0:11
pretty big collection as every year at
0:13
Chryslers at Carile of uh vintage and
0:17
modern Mopars coming in. Some of them
0:19
are modified, some of them are stock.
0:22
So, you can see this very wide range of
0:24
cars coming in. And these are cars that
0:26
you normally, a lot of them are cars
0:28
that you normally don't see on the
0:29
street, like this commercial Dodge
0:32
truck. I mean, how often do you see a
0:33
heavyduty Dodge uh commercial truck just
0:38
driving around? But Chrysler's at
0:40
Carile. Here he is along with the
0:42
modified uh Dart, Valiant, whatever, and
0:46
a whole crowd of spectators. A lot of
0:48
people park some really remarkable cars
0:51
off in the parking lots that are like
0:53
$10 for the day. and then come in as
0:56
spectators rather than going out onto
0:58
the showfield. Uh here's one of the many
1:02
police cars. There's I think I counted
1:04
about a dozen police cars there from
1:07
different years and different eras.
1:09
It looks like a Valiant. Uh one of the
1:12
very few of those actual green valiants
1:15
that you see out there.
1:18
It's really quite a diverse crowd of
1:21
cars. I mean, there's really something
1:22
for everybody. I didn't even get a
1:25
chance this year to walk out over onto
1:26
the other side of the hill where they
1:28
keep the K cars and the Shelbies and you
1:31
know the minivans and all those. But I
1:33
was with the modern challengers. We'll
1:35
see some of those later. Didn't see any
1:38
neons except coming in and going out
1:40
because it is a huge show. There's
1:41
thousands of cars here and you can see
1:43
the variety really wherever your tastes
1:46
go. And even if you just want to
1:48
discover things that you didn't know
1:49
they had, they're all here at Chryslers
1:52
at Carlile. And every year is like this.
1:57
What makes this year special in
1:58
particular, we'll get to soon. Now, I
2:01
filmed all this while I was waiting for
2:03
the shuttle that takes me out to the
2:05
expo center. I just had some spare time
2:08
on my hands and a camera. And you know,
2:11
here's some beautiful cars coming by.
2:14
you know, why not take the pictures?
2:17
But, uh, the shuttle to the expo center
2:19
was nice. That was running continuously
2:21
and it saved you just from walking. It
2:23
was just two or three blocks over there,
2:26
but uh, in the heat, you'd really rather
2:30
take the van across the street. I mean,
2:33
just look at these cars. Look at this
2:35
variety. It is insane. I wonder if that
2:38
Intrepid is the police package. That
2:40
would be interesting. They did make one
2:42
for a few years.
2:44
Uh again, some of these cars are
2:46
modified, some of them are stock, some
2:49
of them are high performance, some of
2:51
them are just regular. This could be a
2:52
street race about to begin if it was 50
2:55
years ago.
2:58
And uh no shame in taking along your
3:00
Chrysler Pacifica minivan. But if
3:03
there's one thing I really want you to
3:04
take away from this video, it is just
3:06
how big the show is and how much variety
3:10
it is. I mean, just filming people
3:12
coming in. This was already pretty late
3:15
when I was filming this. It was past
3:17
9:00 a.m. And you can see that a wide
3:20
variety of vehicles are still entering.
3:22
The guy in the GMC van's probably a
3:24
vendor.
3:26
This is before people really uh all got
3:29
in there on Friday, so there's a lot of
3:31
empty spaces. And this is just in the
3:34
modern El LCAR uh part of the field. Uh
3:39
here I am at a different spot and now
3:42
it's late on Saturday and so people are
3:44
starting to go home. A lot of people
3:46
bring along those little tents and I
3:48
strongly recommend it but taking some
3:50
stakes and stake them into the ground so
3:52
they don't fly away with the wind. And
3:55
while I did spend an inordinate amount
3:56
of time, you might think filming the
3:58
cars coming in and out. It is an
4:01
amazingly large show. There's just an
4:03
awful lot to it and an awful lot of
4:05
variety in different types of car. Here
4:07
we're going to stick to some Road
4:09
Runners. I just happen to like Plymouth
4:11
Road Runners. It's just one of those
4:13
things. But I mean, really, seriously,
4:15
how often will you see this many road
4:17
runners? You didn't see this many at a
4:19
Chrysler dealership back in the day. Uh
4:22
we're going to go back to them in a
4:23
second after we're done watching the uh
4:25
cars leaving for the day on Saturday. I
4:28
mean, just here they all are. Everybody
4:30
drives right by all the road runners as
4:32
they're on their way in or out. Just
4:34
tons of them. And there's the older ones
4:37
behind the newer ones.
4:39
And uh it it's just that they're all
4:42
there. They're pristine. You wouldn't
4:44
believe that this much
4:47
classic Mopar in this good a shape was
4:50
still around. But here they all are and
4:54
out for anybody to look at and to admire
4:57
as much as they like. It's really pretty
5:00
incredible. If you are into trucks, the
5:02
trucks are up on the hill. There's a ton
5:04
of them. You can see some of them
5:05
heading out. Jeeps are very well
5:08
represented. AMC is there. I remember
5:11
seeing a bunch of Pacers and Gremlins
5:13
one year that I went. And uh AMX's,
5:17
they're around somewhere.
5:19
Wing cars. I really did not take good
5:22
video of the wing cars and I apologize
5:24
for that, but there were a ton of them.
5:26
And by a ton for wing cars, I mean about
5:29
a dozen, which is maybe more. It's a lot
5:32
of wing cars. These things are worth a
5:35
ton of money and they're really uh
5:39
getting those front parts and the tail
5:41
and the uh spoilers.
5:44
I can't imagine that that's at all easy.
5:46
So people bringing them all the way to
5:48
Carile so that you can compare a whole
5:50
bunch of them is pretty amazing. Uh this
5:53
is a row of early valiants and
5:55
barracudas just taken from up on the
5:58
hill. You can see as you go around the
6:01
just incredible amount of variety. By
6:03
the way, pretty soon we're going to be
6:04
looking at something that you don't see
6:06
at a lot of car aisles in the past and
6:08
that you really don't see a lot at car
6:11
shows in general, and that is cars from
6:13
the teens, 20s, 30s, and 40s.
6:18
Let's just take a look at some of these
6:20
modern Challengers again going down the
6:22
hill. You can see the uh Pennsylvania
6:25
Turnpike in the distance.
6:28
Some uh the bigger tents belong to clubs
6:31
and the smaller tents belong to
6:33
individuals.
6:34
And I filmed this before the clubs were
6:37
really out there yet. I ju I just got
6:39
there in the morning on Friday and
6:40
Thursday and started filming. But
6:43
anyway, one of the big features of this
6:45
year's show, which is really different,
6:47
is the Expo Center displays. And these
6:50
were a combination of cars brought in by
6:52
the Detroit Historic Society, Chrysler
6:55
Historical, but mainly from the clubs
6:57
bringing in uh cars belonging to various
7:00
owners. So, there's some vintage Dodge
7:02
Brothers Army cars all the way back here
7:04
in the shade. And then the parking lot
7:07
was assigned to various club members to
7:09
represent certain eras. And uh it it's
7:13
pretty wide representation here. Now
7:17
again, a lot of this was filmed on
7:20
Thursday or Friday morning before a lot
7:23
of the people had shown up, but you can
7:25
see that there's a great deal of variety
7:27
and cars that you just don't normally
7:29
see at shows. Cars from the 20s, 30s,
7:34
40s that are pretty unusual.
7:37
And we've seen scatterings of these
7:39
types of cars at previous Chryslers at
7:41
Carile, but nowhere near as many. It
7:44
took a serious club effort from the WPC
7:47
club, the Walter P. Chrysler Club, that
7:49
is the Plymouth Owners Club, the Dotto
7:51
Club, the Dodge brothers club, the
7:53
Imperial Club, the Airflow Club. They
7:56
all had to participate. And Chrysler
7:58
brought these two cars in one of these
7:59
turbines. The other is brought by the
8:01
Detroit Historical Society. Two turbine
8:04
cars. One of them is still working.
8:07
That's the one that belongs to Chrysler.
8:09
The other one, the turbine engine,
8:11
apparently doesn't work anymore. I
8:13
believe that there are nine of these
8:14
cars left. Chrysler did offer all of the
8:18
ones that they made to museums, but not
8:20
many museums took them up on that. So,
8:22
there's not a whole lot of them left.
8:24
And they are beautiful cars inside and
8:26
out. The idea of a turbine powered car
8:30
might have been a little wacky. It
8:31
certainly would have been unique, and it
8:33
really did help when they made the M1
8:35
Abrams tank for a while. uh two turbine
8:39
cars in the same show. That is highly
8:41
unusual and that tells you that it's
8:43
Chrysler's Centennial according to
8:45
Stalantis. and they had a bunch of new
8:48
documentaries running the entire time
8:50
that people were generally watching. And
8:53
I came in and I did a uh story on
8:56
Chrysler's history and they had people
8:58
from Chrysler's history as always at
9:01
Chrysler's at Carile giving seminars and
9:04
interesting talks about working on the
9:06
Mopar Missile being one of the Ram
9:08
Chargers. Uh here's the uh table from
9:11
the Plymouth Owners Club. They also had
9:13
a booth out back. A lot of these cars
9:14
are from club members again and the
9:17
Walter Peak Chrysler Club had a table.
9:19
The Sodto people had a table.
9:22
Bringing in the clubs is unprecedented
9:24
and it was a great idea because the
9:28
clubs can have a really incredible
9:30
national meet and Carile can have the
9:33
best Chryslers at Carile in history and
9:37
Stalantis can show people the greatness
9:40
of the airflow and uh you can compare to
9:43
the Airstream next to it. Notice that
9:46
the airflow is a much wider passenger
9:48
compartment. It was called the first
9:50
modern car when it came out and there
9:52
will be a video out from me pretty soon
9:55
on the history of these cars. I've
9:57
actually already done most of it. I just
9:59
have to integrate some more video into
10:01
it. And look, more video, but being able
10:04
to examine these cars very right up
10:07
there up close and a bunch of them, it's
10:10
like having two turbine cars sitting
10:12
next to each other. It It's really
10:16
a rare event. And this Chrysler's at
10:19
Carile, I think that's what it was. It
10:21
was a show worthy of the 100th
10:23
anniversary of Chrysler Corporation and
10:26
the Chrysler itself, which was made by
10:29
Maxwell Motors. And how often do you get
10:32
to see these cars actually driving in on
10:34
their way to the show just like any
10:37
other car going down the road? It's
10:40
really pretty
10:42
amazing to see. Thank you, and I'll see
10:45
you soon.
